Aging Rights Sexism

Good For The Goose

Quote from Clare Booth Luce: “Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, ‘She doesn’t have what it takes.’ They will say, ‘Women don’t have what it takes.’”

Dear Patriarchy,

I follow the rules.

I show up a little early, prepared, ready to do my part.

I work my ass off.

I do at least my share.

I clean up my own messes. Other people’s too, sometimes.

I stay until it’s done.

I pay my bills, my taxes.

I’m not taking anything that isn’t mine. I’m not asking for anything that isn’t mine.

I should be paid for my work, not for my gender. I earn exactly the same as all the others who follow the same rules, who work as hard as I do. I deserve more than those who don’t follow the rules and do the work even if they were born with a penis. I should be paid what I have earned.

I want the rules to apply to all, not just to me.

Sincerely,

Woman
